Searching Deeper

Although the smell hadn’t improved the atmosphere definitely had. It’s amazing how much better you think life is when you think about it on a full stomach.

Going through some of the extra packets that we found in the boxes, we found some tissue, matches, gum, sugar, and even something called glow sticks. Opening one up, the instructions said bend until glass breaks and shake. Doing that with one of them, we discovered that we could have some light without having to risk going back to our houses to scrounge something up.

Repte asked about lighting a fire to warm up the cave, but we decided against it because although it definitely warm us up, we’d be spotted from miles away. The green sacks seemed quite warm, so we agreed that we’d grab a few more and bring them up to sleep on and wrap up in. We just had to be careful that the watch didn’t get so comfortable that they fell asleep. Not that there were a lot of people wandering around looking for us, but all it would take is one.

With a few of the glow sticks though we went back into the maze of tunnels, and were able to see where we were going a lot easier. Using x’s and arrows, we marked in the dust if a tunnel kept going or led to a dead end. We found the room that we found the food in last time and grabbed a few more boxes and put them out in the tunnel for us to grab on out way back. Searching that room some more we found some back packs, rope, canteens, and some other gear that neither of us could figure out what it was for.

Moving on to the next few rooms, we found a lot of tables and chairs, some very old boxes with wires sticking out of the back, and attached to a board with a bunch of letters on it. Pushing the buttons didn’t do anything so who knows what they were for, but they were probably important as there were a lot of them.

Going down another hallway, we found a heavy door that was locked. The sign above the door you could barely make out the letters on it. Wiping away the dust to make it easier to read, it said “Armory.”

Repte and I looked at each other and smiled.
