Heading off for the dayPosted on March 13, 2008 @ 05:09PM A wiry teenager came bounding out of the hallway adjusting a backpack as he walked into the kitchen and grabbed one of the juice bottles “You know,” Jeanette said with a smile, “it would be nice if I didn’t always have to wait on you.” “I think you are just always earlier.” he said with a smile. “You two better get going if you plan on catching the train to Coretona this morning.” Rochelle said to her son and she gave him a hug. “Maa” Tennis responded as he tried to break free of the hug. “Okay, okay, get going you two.” Rochelle said, “See you at dinner and you better let us know that you won.” “You bet.” Tennis responded “Bye Mrs Kalop,” Jeanette said with a wave as they walked out the door, “I’ll keep an eye on him.” Light from the street level shined down the opening of the basement illuminating the interior of the elevator as the doors hissed open. Stepping out of the elevator Tennis approached the touch pad on the wall and keyed in his personal security number followed by placing his hand on the scanner. As soon as the blue light slide across his handprint the faint whisper of interior mechanics could be heard moving. “You know,” Jeanette said as she punched in her security number and placed her hand on the scanner, “one of the things that I love about the Corporate Islands is the parking.”
“Well for one, we didn’t have this when I lived in Atlantia, I just parked next to the house there.” “The advantages of living in a one thousand unit housing complex,” Tennis laughed, “great parking.” The wall slide up to reveal Tennis’s yellow M750 Sukio monocycle being held in place on a conveyor rack that slide out to place the cycle in front of the teenager. The door closed as the conveyer receded into the wall and opened back up seconds later revealing a red B575 Sukio monocycle. Tennis threw a leg over his monocycle and activated the power cell on the vehicles control panel while Jeanette preformed the same steps to ready her cycle. “When are you going to get a newer cycle,” Tennis asked as he looked over at her, “it’s not like your father can’t afford one.” “Why would I need to get a new one, I can still outrun you anytime I want.” Jeanette said while grasping both handle grips, “since we are running late you better keep up or else we might miss the train.” As soon as she had finished the sentence Jeanette twisted one of the handgrips down throttling the vehicle up to speed. The monocycle leapt forward at an astonishing rate as she sped up the ramp heading to the streets. Caught by her surprise take off Tennis twisted his throttle grip down and took of after her. “Game on!” Tennis yelled as he twisted the throttle grip on his monocycle and sped up the ramp behind her. |
