The VoicePosted on December 24, 2007 @ 10:50PM Conservation of energy had propelled the world onto many paths after the world changing quakes; the ceiling of the hangar was just one of them. During the day it turned semi transparent to allow the sunlight in to illuminate the hangar. However, at night, the spliced genes inside the material took over. The luminescent protein aequorin and the fluorescent molecule GFP (green fluorescent protein) have been extracted, purified, and eventually cloned from the Aequorea Victoria species of jellyfish. The luminescence provided by these splicings into the building materials eliminated the need for lighting. So successful was this application that it quickly spread through the world and into a variety of products. Now it was so commonplace that most took it for granted. Just like plastics had become commonplace in the pre-quake world bioluminescent lighting had become just as common. The tail end of a FX-80 was the first thing that I saw as I walked through the door into the hangar. Looking up at the tail number on the aircraft I knew immediately that this particular aircraft was assigned to Lex. Landon Sutton was the Plane Captain for the aircraft that Lex was assigned to and was currently opening the port engine door for maintenance. “What happened Sutton, did Lex break it again?” I jokingly asked the Plane Captain. Looking up he laughed, “Actually, she did sir. She’s changing out of her flight suit to come help us change the engine now. Mind if I ask you a question sir?” “No problem, what’s your question?” somehow I already knew what the question was when I responded, the same question I had myself. PC Sutton step out from below the engine and asked, “What’s going on with all the extra Politia and that transport that came in? Security is tighter then I have ever seen here and no one I’ve talked to knows what is going on. Thought that since you’re an officer…” “Sutton,” I replied with a laugh, “I don’t have a clue what is happening either.” “Well, I feel better then.” Sutton replied with a smirk. “Now a question for you, happen to know where Chief Corbett is?” I asked. “That one I can answer,” he replied, “The Chief is out in the Plane Captain shack. Saw him there about 10 mikes ago.” Turning to leave I replied, “Thanks Sutton, I’m headed out to talk to the Chief if anyone asks.” “Will do sir.” He replied. The Plane Captain’s for the squadrons each had a small building located off to the side of the flight line that they used for their base of operations. This placing allowed them to be closer to the planes and to react much faster then if they had been located in the hangar. Heading off in the direction of the buildings a voice filled my head causing me to stop dead in my tracks. Kalop, come over here. Raksh Oasha was the only person who had spoke with me in such a way before and that was back at Tosadae. Somehow I didn’t think at he was calling to me to scold me on my tardiness to the Visionic Arts class. This was someone near me, but who could it have been. Looking around quickly I failed to see anyone that appeared to be the sender. Looking down the flight line I pondered the voice that had just filled my head. PC3 Tailleur walked out from behind her FX-80 at the end of the flight line looking in my direction. Changing my direction I started to head off to the end of the flight line. It was a women’s voice I wonder if it could have been her? I thought. |
