Captain Yu's officePosted on December 10, 2007 @ 04:36PM This was the first time I had actually stepped into the office of Captain Yu, all of the reviews she had done on me in the previous days had been in the squadron’s ready room. The office was large but not overly so; everything that was needed by Captain Yu was available to her. One of the first things I noticed as I stepped in was the roughly 4 foot by 4 foot dual holo screens that illuminated in front of the light blue colored wall. One screen showed the activity in the hangar and another of the activity on the flight line. I was sure that these screens could display more then what they showed at the moment though. There was also a flagpole in the right corner of the office that displayed the Politia flag. Behind Captain Yu’s desk hung quite a number of photos’s, awards, and certificates from her career in the Politia. Her desk was sparsely decorated except for the holo display models of the FX-80 and a pre-quake fighter aircraft that I instantly recognized as the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. The left side of her office contained a floor to ceiling holoscreen that featured a map of the area surrounding Atlantia. I noticed that the map had quite a few marks on it that I figured had something to do with fly zones or Black Guard activity. Captain Yu looked up at me through the holoscreen that hovered above her desk, with a wave of her hand the screen dispersing the millions of light particles that had previously formed the view screen. For a brief moment I could almost make out the image on the screen that appeared to be a biodroid. “Have a seat Ensign.” She said “Thank you ma’am and here is the flight shard you asked for” I said as I placed the shard on her desk and took the seat in front of her desk. “Thank you Ensign. I’ve heard some good things about you from the other officers here, looks like you are starting to fit in just like I thought you would. The only negative thing I have really heard is from Stitch. He was telling me earlier that your shielding technique could really use some help so I want you to spend your time training with him when you aren’t flying. Don’t worry, your not the only one who needs to brush their skills up on shielding, a few of your other colleges will be joining you as well.” “Yes ma’am, I’ve been having difficulty with keeping situational awareness and trying to do shielding at the same time. It’s not quite as easy as I thought it was in training or in the simulators when you up in the air.” I responded. “I’m impressed by the flying skills you have been showing lately but that review is not why I called you here, there’s a few questions I need to ask you Ensign Kalop.” Captain Yu said as she folded her arms on the table and leaned in. “Thank you ma’am, what questions can I answer for you?” I responded not really knowing what was to come next. “I have had some conversations lately with Flight Instructor Caplan and with Raksh Oasha regarding a biodroid unit that you have had contact with, what can you tell me about it? And drop the ma’am, skipper, Captain or Firefly will do.” “Well skipper,” I said in my surprise, “I sure didn’t see that question coming. I would assume the biodroid you are asking about is the unit known as OPALMOX ?” Captain Yu nodded her head and waited for my response. “I was wondering the halls of the academy the day before I departed to the squadron and literally bumped into him in the hallways as we both seemed caught up in thought and our minds happened to be elsewhere.” “Excuse me Ensign, how can a biodroid be caught up in a thought,?” she asked. “I’m really not sure about that skipper but he was, I didn’t remember it at the time of the meeting but I had seen him before in a vision quest during one of Raksh Oasha’s Visionistic Arts classes.” Captain Yu tilted her head while asking me, “What was the vision you had?” I paused for a brief moment while gathering my thoughts and continued, “ It was just a brief vision and most of it I am not sure about but OPALMOX was in the cockpit of a Politia aircraft, anything past that I really am not sure about.” “Go on then Ensign.” She said “Anyhow, he started telling me about his plight of having lost his security key card that was assigned to him but he never received it. I realized later that this probably had something to do with his being a biodroid and the Black Guard attacks. Well, we chatted for a bit and then we parted ways.” “So,” Captian Yu started, “you just chatted with the biodroid?” “Yes ma’am. Just like I would to any other living person.” I replied. “It’s a biodroid Kalop, not a person.” Kagawa Yu responded in a raised voice that was clearly annoyed. “Some people said the same things about splicers not long ago as well,” I responded fully caught off guard of where this conversation had gone. “OPALMOX isn’t a hunk of metal waiting for programming either, he is a sentient being.” “So Masta Poe has told me and quite a few others I understand.” she replied, pausing a few moments before continuing, “Thank you for your honesty Ensign, your dismissed. Get with Stitch in the morning, no more flights tonight for you, you’ve done well and I think you deserve a break.” “Thank you skipper, can I ask why you are interested in OPALMOX.” I asked as I stood to leave. The sound of a piano and saxophone softly filled the room as Kagawa Yu waved her hand over her desk. “No, you can’t Kalop.” she responded. Dumbfounded by that answer I turned and walked out of the office. |
