Plane Captain Sandrine Tailleur

Posted on December 01, 2007 @ 04:25AM

The young service women raised her right hand in the air and extended her left arm straight out beside her. She moved her right arm from her head, to horizontal and back to her head repeatedly to let the pilot of the aircraft she was looking at that he needed to turn. As the aircraft responded to her directions she put both arms up and repeatedly moved her a hands from the horizontal position then towards her head to indicate to the pilot that he needed to taxi the aircraft forward. As the aircraft moved closer she raised her arms above her in to create a x formation indicating the pilot should stop. Stepping besides the aircraft she looked up into the cockpit at the pilot, gave him a thumbs up and then put her arm level and drew it across her neck in a throat cutting motion indicating to the pilot it was safe for engine shutdown.

The young service women removed her protective headgear as the whine of the hydrogen engines died away as the engines shut down. She reached out to the aircraft and opened up a panel that revealed the narrow ladder inside of it that was to be used by the pilot to climb in an out of the aircraft with. The ladder extended and she smiled as always when she saw what was painted on the wheel well door, “PC Sandrine Tailleur, Atlantia”

It had been just at two years now since Sandrine Tailleur had left Atlantia to join the Politia. She had and shown those above her enough dedication and knowledge about the FX-80 to achieve the title of Plane Captain. FX-80 serial number 24601 was her aircraft, she was the one in charge of it and checked off all repairs or schedule them as needed. Sandrine wasn’t sure if the new Ensign actually realized that it was her aircraft yet and that she was letting him take it for a flight but figured he would figure that out soon enough.

Sandrine reflected a moment on her old aircraft and its pilot LT Cyril “Quirky” Monteil. A brief sadness and sense of loss came over her; LT Monteil was the pilot for the first aircraft she was assigned to as a Plane Captain. The last time she had seen LT Monteil and her first aircraft was the day the Shadehawks attacked the Tosadae MMZ student transport.

Aircraft from the Tarsiers were on patrol the area around Tosade in case there was a second attack. Sandrine remembered standing out on the flight line with the other Plane Captains as the aircraft landed. The Plane Captains had heard there was a skirmish between their fighters and the Shadehawks but that was all they knew. The sight of the returning aircraft, some with visible battle damage and the fact that there were two aircraft missing, silenced the group. The Plane Captains took their spots as the planes taxied in, Sandrine was one of two Plane Captains that did not have her aircraft and pilot return to her that day.

She shook her head quickly to clear that memory out of her mind and looked up at her new pilot climbing out of the cockpit. Sandrine saw the yellow orange aura surrounding her new Ensign but didn’t need that ability to tell that he was thrilled to be flying her aircraft.
