In The BeginningPosted on February 17, 2008 @ 07:47AM Major Taylor Geranth entered into a brightly lit room as the door shimmered and recoalesced behind him. Ducane Covax looked up from what he was doing. Stretched out before him was a biodroid, initially it looked like any other biodroid, with the exception that it appeared to have more of a purple hue to it than the oily grey blue color that was normally associated with Covax’s creations, and the scanning bands were an almost lifeless black. Behind him was another biodroid that nearly matched the one before him. Ducane smiled broadly, and said in a tired voice, “Ah Major, how good of you to come by.” Maj Geranth eyed Ducane warily, and said, “This isn’t a socaial call Ducane, I received your message, indicating that you were finished with the project.” Ducane nodded tiredly, and said “To a point. I don’t have the quantity that you requested. I had to develop a different process for the new type of biostrand, and the fusion process took longer than expected. The DNA and RNA material that you provided was not the easiest to clone, develop, and fuse into a viable strands. That’s why I only have these two biodroids for you to evaluate while I try to refine and improve the process. By the way, I don’t know who’s idea it was to fuse the donation sample with a bacterial strand, but it was revolutionary. Although much more difficult to replicate and create viable strands, but they proved to have a longer lifespan over their viral counterparts, and won’t breakdown like my earlier models. Although that unto itself is a safety feature.” Maj Geranth nodded as he looked contemplatively down at the new model. Finally he asked, “Why is it such an odd color?” Ducane shrugged and said, “It’s part of the biogeneration process. Because of the different genetic materials that were used, it took on different properties from previous models. Albeit, it’s primarily a modified Series III, I’ve incorporated some of the bioengineering aspects that I’ve developed with the Series IV. You’ll also notice that I’ve made some other minor changes, which I’m sure that you and your sponsor can appreciate.” Maj Geranth looked back and forth from the biodroid to Ducane and in a dangerous tone asked, “What modifications and liberties did you take Ducane? The schematics and request were very specific, and didn’t call for deviation or interpretations.” Ducane smiled broadly and waving a hand at the biodroid, “My good Major, I wouldn’t think of doing anything that would jeopardize any future transactions between us, I merely improved upon your request. You’ll notice that the hands and feet have a more human quality to them.” Nodding, Maj Geranth asked, “And?” “And, nothing beyond what you had already requested, but with these modifications, it’s better equipped to accomplish the tasks that you identified,” was Ducane’s calm reply. Maj Geranth looked the biodroid up and down, periodically glancing at Ducane who was quietly observing him. Nodding his initial approval, Ducane smiled broadly and said, “Major Geranth, I present to you: Organic, Programming, And Mechanical Operating eXchange, easier known as OPALMOX.” |
