Maj Geranth's Debrief

Posted on December 18, 2007 @ 05:32AM

Captain Yu quietly watched Major Geranth, pulling out his PDA, he pulled out a shard and handed it to Captain Yu.

Captain Yu accepted the shard as Major Geranth stood up and began to walk around the office. Looking at the awards that were proudly displayed on the shelves, quietly he said, “Everything that I’m going to share with you never leaves this room. So please, turn off the room recorders.”

Captain Yu keyed in a sequence of codes into her wristsponder.

Smiling, Major Geranth said, “All of them ma’am.”

Nodding, Captain Yu opened up a small drawer in her desk and pushed several buttons.

Returning the nod, Major Geranth started his tale.

A few years ago, we all know that Ducane Covax did what certain people in the Politia were unwilling to do… he provided the Atlantians a protective force. Impressed with the results of what he has done, we watched to ensure the viability of the biodroids.

As you know, the lifespan of the early model biodroids were relatively short. This was good for a number of applications, but not in the realms of intelligence. The Series III biodroids showed the most promise, but again there was the problem of the short lifespans. So, in a secret meeting with Ducane, we requested that he construct a sub-series specifically for us. These weren’t to be a protective force, but were to be used as intelligence gathering units. Biodroids fair better in the extreme environments that we were losing a number of intelligence agents. But, they also had to be capable of independent problem solving in order to obtain our objectives without being independent themselves.

A tall order I know, but our thinking was that if something went wrong, we had plausible deniability, and could say that another of Covax’ creations had gone awry, and sweep it under the rug.

He was successful in the fact that he provided us with a modified Series III whose life expectancy was indeterminable, and had exceptional problem solving capabilities. Unfortunately, due to the secrecy involved in what we were doing, Covax was not authorized to input anything beyond a basic programming and an expanded learning matrix. Only a three people including Covax knows whose DNA was used to imprint the biostrip, but OPALMOX was presented to us, functional, but totally a blank slate. So, we were stuck on how to train him. A remote classroom at Tosadae provided us with everything that we needed. I was assigned to observe Mox since he first arrived.

He learns at a very fast pace, faster than anyone could have anticipated. The powers at be decided to loosen the strings and allow Mox to follow what ever path he chose. That way they could follow his logic systems, and could anticipate what the new series would do.

They didn’t account for two things. The first that he would find any interest in the Visionsitic Arts, and the second was that such study could eventually lead to a cognitive being.

Instead of terminating him, my orders were to pull his security card, and see how he handled what they referred to as “His first practical exercise.” With the apparent attacks by the Black Guard, they wanted to see what would make him tick, and how he would approach this scenario. They weren’t prepared for the end result, a sentient biodroid, capable of independent thought, free will, and seems to not only have untapped potential in the Arts.

Thus, his encounter with Ensign Kalop gave him a new focus, and over the course of the last couple of weeks, has led us to where we are today.

Turning to Captain Yu, Major Geranth paused, then continued, “Captain Yu, it’s the desire of the Politia Intelligence Command, that OPALMOX be assigned to your squadron to use as you see fit. Either in the pilot seat, on the flight line, or as an intelligence resource as he was originally intended. That shard you are holding is all of the specifics, and courses that OPALMOX has completed. It is all of the intelligence data and recordings since he was placed at Tosadae.

Additionally, if you accept this assignment, you’ll find the codes necessary to access SATS 15 and 21, which will grant you access to the secured program and imagery that you are looking for to provide you with live telemetric imagery of Atlantia, because in accepting him, you’ll be accepting the orders that he’s carrying.

Captain Yu’s interest was piqued. “What assignment would that be Major?” she asked.

Major Geranth looked out on the flight line and quietly said, “Provide air cover for the Politia Ground Forces that are going to secure Air Field Rimmar. Then from there, set up operations and provide further air cover for the reconnaissance around the dome, and the opportunity to be the first attack squadron to help us take back Atlantia.”

Captain Yu measured Major Geranth carefully, his body language, aura, and bearing spoke volumes in comparison to the few paragraphs that he had shared. Then reaching a decision she pressed a button on her wristsponder and said, “Sergeant Touline, tell OPALMOX to report for duty.”
