One week until the Tournament.

Posted on October 08, 2008 @ 09:43AM

There was only a week until the Advanced Flight Tournament, and Kam and I were just about ready. We linked up the two advanced simulators, and and engaged in a series of Dog fights. I hate to say it, but Kam got good. Real good.

His meditation with Havel seems to have paid off, I could hardly get a shot in without being dodged, and then smacked down. When your fighter gets destroyed in a simulation your cockpit goes dark, and you shut down for about a minute before everything boots up again. Which is really frustrating when you’re in the middle of an extremely tense battle, and even more so when it happens repeatedly.

I’ve been brought up in an area where you’ve got to remain humble, no matter what. You don’t try and get ahead in the community. Not that Kam was trying to do that, it was just humbling all over again.

Kam was good about it, he didn’t make a big thing about it, but he didn’t patronize me either. After all of the troubles he’s been having lately, it was hard to be annoyed at him.
“UG Kam,” I said, “I’m just going to have to hope I don’t face you in this thing.”
“You’ll be fine,” Kam says. “We’ll take this thing home so long as we don’t have to face Lazerman, and even so, I bet we give him a run for his money.”
“Is he as good as they say?” I asked.
“Well, Have’ was in that transport attack, and everyone was scared spitless. If you can keep your head with a buncha raiders firing at you, you’ve gotta be some kind of Zen master or something.”
“Well then,” I said. “If you match up to him, it’ll be the fight of the century!”

Kam and I went our separate ways, and I met up with Miro. I wasn’t too concerned about Tournament. Getting humbled by Kam made me thing of where I came from, and I was just happy to be living the life I was. Being at Tosadae was one incredible experience after another.
