The rescue

As soon as I got dressed from my deep sleep I called Grenci, and asked him if anything had happened.

“Yeah man,” he replied from my wrisponder. “Your tip was good. This jick we’ve got in custody gave it up. We’re moving on the Mausoleum in an hour.”
“I’m coming,” I said, and made my way to Grenci’s dorm.

When I got there, Grenci was dressed in riot gear and holding a hand held deuterium blaster. It looked serious. I walked up to him.
“Look, Derf,” he started. “I don’t think it’s such a good…”
I cut him off, “I’m coming Grenci, that’s final.”

I rode out there with the assault team the Tosadae Security Branch had put together. They all looked fully competent, but my heart was in my stomach worrying about Miro.

Once we got there, Grenci looked at me and said, “Derf. I’m going to have to lay it out here. There’s a chance that she might not have survived. There’s no telling what these psychos wanted her for. You’ve got to be prepared for this.”
“I know,” I replied meekly. The truth is, I don’t think I could have handled it if she actually had died. I really care about her.

The team moved in, and before I knew what was happening there was the sound of deuterium shots from inside. I freaked out, until about five minutes later, Grenci came out with a very malnourished looking Miro. She seemed unconscious, but woke up a little and I ran over to her and hugged her.

“I knew you and Grenci would come,” she said. “It was all I thought about.”
All I could think to say was “It’s ok.” over and over. I’m so glad she’s alright.
