Cooking Development

Posted on September 12, 2008 @ 12:25AM

I waited a few days until I went to see Miro again after her last visit. She seemed quite shaken when she left, and I didn’t want to push it. However, Miro was an intelligent girl, who when she got talking was very sweet and interesting. I was determined to become better friends with her. She was also very attached to Derf, who I had come to respect quite highly, and with Grenci, who was a bit of an enigma in himself.

I went to her dorm, and she answered the door.
“Um, hi.” She said.
“Hey Miro,” I said. “I was wondering if you would like to come and help plan our next cooking experiment with some friends?”
“Oh, uhh, I don’t think…” I could see that she was hesitating, I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable, so I cut her off,
“Look, Miro,” I said. “I know you’ve been through a lot, and it’s probably changed you in ways you’re not ready to deal with. You don’t have to worry around that around me. I won’t judge you, and I won’t tell anyone else.”
“Oh, thank you,” she said.
“You can trust me,” I told her, firmly, but concerned.
“Yes,” she said.
“Then lets go cook!” I exclaimed.

I took her around to Ralm’s dorm where he and Jene were waiting. I introduced Miro to both of them, and then asked,
“What planning to make today?”
“Well,” said Ralm, “I’ve got this recipe for ‘slow roasted pork’. But I’m having trouble figuring out what a modern splicer we could use for that type of meat is.”
“Oh,” said Miro. “Pork came from pigs, which were an animal used mainly for meat before the Illiatus virus killed all the domesticates. The closest thing on the food market would be a Swinodile.”
“Wow, check out the brains on this girl,” Said Jene. Miro went red.
“That is impressive, Miro,” I said. “So you know quite a bit about cooking in general then?”
“Yes,” She said. “There used to be a man, Mr. Stofelli, who lived near our building back at Station City. He was always trying new things and creating recipe. I really enjoyed his company.”
“Then this is the group for you,” Ralm said to her.

We spent the rest of the day planning out the other parts of the recipe. Miro was invaluable with her botanical insights. We made a list and agreed to go out into the city surrounds and get the different ingredients. Miro and I would handle the plants and spices, and Ralm and Jene would see if they could get a swinodile.

We talked on the way, and we got on really well. We share a love of history, and both recognize the importance of our studies. Maybe I’ll even get her playing crizettes!
