Spending Time With Miro

Posted on September 07, 2008 @ 05:28AM

Miro had been released from the Tosadae hospital, and she came by my place unexpectedly. I answered the door, and she looked at me meekly.
“Hi, um. Nkiru,” she said.
“Hello, Miro,” I replied. “It’s good to see you up and about.”
“Thank you,” she said. “I brought you this.”
She was holding a book. It was rather large, and looked to be full of extra pages filled with notes.
I was about to ask what it was before she interrupted.
“It’s my notebook,” She said. “It’s full of everything I learned about pre-quakes botany. I thought you might like to go over it with me, we could talk about some of the basic ingredients that were used in ancient recipes.”

“Excellent,” I said. “Lets get started.”
We spent the next few hours looking at her notes and some of the recipes she had gotten from the Archaic Library, some repository on Tosadae that held all of the books and other available data from before the quakes. I was impressed a place like that could have existed. My interest in archaeology could be well satisfied in that place.

“How do you get access to a place like that?” I asked.
“Oh, well…” she said, “It’s not really open to everyone. The only reason I got in was Grenci got this book proposal set up. I’d be happy to help with anything you’d like from there. It’s okay for someone to make copies once they have access.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” I replied.

I was thinking about how it might have been helpful to look into archaeology of the pre-quakes times. What happened next alarmed me.
“Oh, archaeology, right?” she said, “You’d like to see what the past civilizations are like?’
“How did you…” I started. It was like she had read my mind.
“Oh, umm… I didn’t” she was faltering. “I have to go!”

Miro got up and left in a hurry.
