Dilemmas at Tosadae.

I caught up with Kam at the Nax to see how he was doing lately. Kam was usually a relaxed, grounded person to talk to, and ever since he and I had smoothed things over, we got on very well. These days I was finding it a lot easier to maintain friendships.

I asked him how he was doing.
“Not too good, Nik,” he said. “Havel is quite inconsistent these days, she’s worried about Atlantia…”

Havel had good cause to be worried. Ever since that Proton Dome had gone up around Atlantia, a sense of unease had been felt around Tosadae. The students who were actually from there never really seemed that happy. The truth is, the whole world was in a state of unrest over the whole thing.

Kam continued, ”... Derf’s kind of not-really-girlfriend has gone missing, and he’s really worried.”

I’d heard about this girl, Miro. Apparently she was this near genius-level girl, really quiet and intelligent. There were rumors that some cult was involved.

“I think it’s going to be okay, though,” Kam went on, “Because that dude Grenci you know, the one who got you to help him bust that drugs case, is on top of things. He’s her roommate and Derf things he’s got a good chance of finding her soon.”

“I’ve heard a bit about her,” I told Kam. “Aside from the rumors and the obvious, I heard that she was quite into botany. If she gets back safely, I’d really like to meet her. We’ve got this project going which concerns archaic pre-quakes cooking. She could probably really help out.”
“I think that would probably be a good idea,” Kam said. “From what I understand, she was a bit of a loner, and would probably benefit from having a group of friends assuming she gets back ok.”
“I hope she does,” I said. “For her sake, and for Derf’s. He deserves a nice girl.”
“Yeah” said Kam, “Plus, there’s a good chance Havel got us into this Advanced Flight Tournament, and if he’s depressed that won’t do him any favors.”
Kam looked like he realized something, and checked his wristponder.
“Oh spit!” he said, “That reminds me, I should go catch up with Havel, and make sure she’s doing okay. Thanks for the talk, Nik.”
“Anytime,” I said smiling.

It’s a shame all of this negative stuff seems to be happening to people at Tosadae, but I’m feeling better than I have in a long time.
