Calling home.Posted on August 03, 2008 @ 05:54AM As part of my new, positive outlook on life, my “Try to say yes” plan, I decided it was something to do the think I hadn’t done the whole time I’ve been at Tosadae – call my parents. I was very worried about making contact. I can’t say we parted on amicable terms. This was difficult for me to do, but I have had to face a number of challenges since I’ve been at Tosadae. Amongst leaving the flight program, turning the Raiders in for drug use and learning to make friends again, this was not a massive thing in the scheme of things. I put the number into my wristponder for my home at the Joint Common Market.
“Samalo Pana” came the voice of my father.
I hesitated, not knowing what to say.
“Hello?” he said. “I can hear that someone is there. I’ll switch to visual mode if you don’t identify yourself…”
I cut him off, “It’s me, daddy. Nkiru.”
This encouraged me a great deal. My father asked me if my injury healed, and how I was doing at Tosadae. I told him about the Drug Case, and my new friends. I assured him I hadn’t forgotten the family and asked how everyone was. I told him after my training at Tosadae I would try to return to JCM to help the family as much as possible. It was a wonderful talk and I’m glad I called him. |
