The new team

Posted on June 30, 2008 @ 09:28AM

Jene, Nyke, Jonge, Ayer, Ralm and Frier. My new Crizettes team. The Stormers.

I was feeling apprehensive about my new teammates, but Grenci had told me to… well, he told me to fake it. This wasn’t very difficult for me, because they were really nice people.

I’d been burned so badly by the Raiders, and they were friendly at first with me too, but I can see now that it was more of a superficial thing. I was so in need of acceptance back then, that I overlooked their drive, they didn’t treat me badly, because I didn’t mess up. I fit in with their image, I intimidated the other Crizettes teams. I didn’t fail, until they asked me to do something illegal.

The Stormers were great though. They didn’t actually play to win. They played because they loved the game. They appreciated my aptitude for it, but they didn’t elevate me above the others. If we lost… it didn’t matter to them, and for once, it didn’t matter to me.

So I found if very easy to be in social situations with them. They listened to my background, and they commiserated about my family, and their drive for me to succeed. They told me about their problems, and how they loved the social aspect of the sport. They never brought up the drugs once, and they must have known I was on that team.

Grenci had asked me to keep my ear to the ground, but not to get involved if I could help it. But I felt like talking to them about the subject. I felt comfortable around them. I asked them what they thought about the whole debacle.

“I thought it was horrible,” said Jene. “I can’t believe someone would put that kind of crap into their bodies.”
“Have any of you guys heard about it happening again?” I asked.
“It’s a pretty big deal now,” Nyke said. “I think the Crizettes population has been generally scared off by it, but there could still be some Zoccair or Pelie peoples using the stuff.”
“My friend is investigating it.” I blurted out. I suddenly felt compelled to be completely honest with them. They looked at me, shocked.
“My friend, Grenci, he’s helping investigating the drugs. He came and interviewed me after the whole thing, and the only reason I’m back in Crizettes because he wanted me to find out more. I’m sorry. I wanted to be honest with you.” “Oh man, that’s awesome,” said Jonge. “I’m glad someone’s doing something about it.”

They were incredibly about the whole thing. They were my friends.
