A conversation with the priestess.

Posted on September 27, 2008 @ 07:23AM

My attempts to bring the priestess under control have failed. Now, as well as picking up wisps of thoughts of people around me, I feel the priestess on the edges of my consciousness, encroaching, trying to break in and take over.

What’s worse, I’ve been losing time, and that absolutely petrifies me. So far, it hasn’t seemed to have affected anyone I have seen lately.

I set my wristponder to track, and sat down in the dark. If I was going walking about again, I’d want to know. I had to confide in someone, but who? Grenci would freak out, and maybe tell someone in the Detective Branch about it out of duty. I didn’t know Nkiru well enough. I had to tell Derf. But when?

I fell asleep. I was once standing in the Hall of Shadows. The Priestess was there again. I could feel her presence, even though I couldn’t see her directly.

“Who are you?” I yelled.
“Kathryn.” came her voice.
“What do you want?” I returned.
“Control.” she replied.
“Of the world, of the Government, of… you.” This actually struck me as being quite silly. I suddenly felt brave. I laughed.
“Of the government? Of the World? The Hall of Shadows is nothing now. It’s pitiful. Do you actually expect any of that to happen? You’re just that naive little girl that was corrupted by a greedy old bastards centuries ago.”
“Silence!” the voice yelled back.
“No.” I said, “You’re the one who is going to shut up. This is my body, and you’re going to respect it. I may not be able to get you out of my mind, but you’re sure as hell not going to influence me.”
There was no reply.

I woke up, and checked my wristponder. I hadn’t been anywhere, and I felt… calmer. After I recognized that this entity in me was petty and superficial, it didn’t seem that menacing anymore.

I think things are going to be alright.
