The Hall of Shadows

Posted on April 17, 2008 @ 05:28AM

I went to the Anthropology Cube in the Archaic Library, and decided to browse the Cube Catalog. Each of the Cubes have a system which allows you to search by keywords, which must have been a monumental task to install.

I entered “Cult” into the system, and it came up with a list of titles. One called “Cults and New Age Religious Movements” seemed the most promising, so I selected it and the shelves rotated, bringing the row containing the book to the front.

The book was dated to 2003, which must have been part of the old date recording system before the Great Quakes, I couldn’t figure out how long ago that was though.

The book had information about a variety of Cults, but it was just as much a work of academic theory on religions, I had expected this though. I looked in the index and was shocked to actually see “Hall of Shadows”.

I shuddered, and flicked to the page. It turns out that the Hall of Shadows was a group who had predicted the Great Quakes, and had grouped together worthy people (the book cynically stated that anyone with money was a “worthy person”), to survive the cataclysm, repopulate, and rule the world (it obviously didn’t work). The person in control was a high priestess. According to the book, the cult was very secretive, but there were rumors that many celebrities and politicians were members. When I read the next part, I stopped cold. The author stated that, theoretically, the cult would have access to millions of US dollars (some pre-Quakes monetary unit) and there were speculations that they were trying to create some great underground Hall, or Dome, to be the focal point of their underground quake-proof bunker. This must be what I’ve seen in my dreams!

The rest of the text on the Hall of Shadows was just an sociological examination of the cult’s recruitment methods and how they were a bunch of delusional maniacs.

But I know better, and I need to know more.
