In the Archaic LibraryPosted on April 03, 2008 @ 10:51PM The Archaic Library was much bigger than I thought it was. All of the paper records that were salvaged from before the Great Quakes are kept here at Tosadae. The Library is a giant underground space, with thousands of plexiglass cubes of various sizes. Within these cubes are the books, stored on special shelves which rotate. Each cube represents a specific topic, and contains any associated books. The size of the cube depends on the amount of material on each subject. I have a feeling these subjects haven’t been arranged very well, as the librarians have favored preservation over organization. The librarians are gradually scanning the whole library, but they only do it one subject at a time. It will be decades before the entire library is complete. The rooms are kept at a low temperature to aid in the preservation of the paper, and are dehumidified to cut down on any harmful moisture. To go into a cube you have to dress warm, and wear special gloves, and it’s probably not very good for you to stay in them for too long. Of course I am unable to take the books from the cubes, so I just transcribe what I can, by reading the text aloud, recording it in my wristponder. This is a bit of a slow process, so I think I’ll have to get Grenci to equip my wristponder with a scanner so I can just scan books to read later. I have decided the best place to start looking for information about the Hall of Shadows would probably be in books about cults, so after I’ve finished doing research in the botany section, I’ll browse the Anthropology section. I hope this helps. |
