The Archaic Library

Posted on February 24, 2008 @ 02:11AM

I never told Grenci about the dreams I had, come to think of it, beside my parents I never told anyone. I wanted to tell Mr Stofelli (hmm, I miss CHS), but couldn’t. My parents always insisted that they would pass, that they had nightmares when they were my age, but you don’t get them so much as you grow up. I am convinced these dreams are different. Things have happened in real life that I have seen or heard in my dreams; the theft of the gnorb, the person who attacked me, the hall of shadows. I still intend to research this “Hall of Shadows” business though, if I find out everything about this, surely I can’t have nightmares anymore.

I couldn’t find any mentions of any Hall of Shadows on the Vyber-Net that wasn’t awful fan-fiction and even then, none of that mentioned anything remotely close to what I had experienced in my dreams. I needed to find something with information that was a little more esoteric, and I had no idea where to get information that wasn’t on the V-Net

I was ranting about how ineffective the V-Net was to Grenci, and he told me about an alternative – the Tosadae Archaic Library. Although everyone has a wristponder here, and can pretty much download anything they want to them, Tosadae has this very important resource that isn’t really known about. Grenci seems to have made it his business to know everything that goes on at Tosadae, and came across this during one of his “plausible deniability” expeditions. How he came across the Archaic Library is a mystery to me, because it consists of all the material information that survived the Great Quakes. This information was written down on paper, a compound made from trees somehow. Pages of these were bound into Books, others were letters written by important people, maps, laws, forms and files. This is the information stored in the Archaic Library. All the records have since been coated in a special synthetic polymer, to ensure preservation. Grenci told me that the library is off-limits to students without a ‘legitimate reason’ to use it, but the information is being gradually digitized for public use on wristponders. He also told me that this was a very slow process, and he wouldn’t be surprised if some texts were being purposefully omitted from public access.

“I could get you in though,” he said.
