Random thoughts about myths and splicers and science.Posted on November 16, 2008 @ 12:29PM So I’ve been reading some weird fringy type books lately. Just to keep my mind occupied when I would normally be using my wristponder. I’ve been reading these books about cryptozoology and thinking, how weird it would be for someone from a few hundred years ago to be suddenly alive in our time, and see creatures like splicers or whatever. They’d think they’re all manner of weird mythical creatures or monsters. Of course, here at Tosadae we have General Donald Petersen, who has (well, his brain at least) been alive since before the great quakes, but he’s been alive the whole time to witness the changes. But you take a normal person, and show them a person spliced with ape DNA, and they might think of Bigfoot, a large mythic creature. That’s just an example. Many splicer types could be interpreted as things from ancient myth. Science has taken veritable quantum leaps since before the quakes. I guess the world trying to reassemble itself had to get really heavy on the science to ensure quality of life for everyone. People like, dare I say it, Ducane Covax came up with some pretty creative answers to solve problems in the world, the only problem is that this science caused some pretty unique problems as well. But a few hundred years ago? The closest they got to splicing was growing ears on mice, and that wasn’t even at a genetic level. UG my mind goes on some weird tangents sometimes. |
