TV Bad

Posted on October 12, 2008 @ 10:02AM

Today, I stayed at home, and watched TV. Yeah. For real.

Do you ever have any of those days where you just can’t possibly be bothered doing anything? I’d been going so hard out about, well everything lately that I just had to switch the brain off and watch some mindless entertainment.

Mindless being the operative word here. TV is not the greatest invention known to man, it’s actually kinda lame.

Take these shows for example:

Sangelino Heart – This is a show about a hospital in Sangelino. Watch as pretty doctors and nurses have affairs with each other and make questionable decisions which affect their work bordering on malpractice, always to the backdrop of one medical emergency after another!

Boring.

SCPFT – I think this one stands for Station City Politia Forensics Taskforce, but it could just as easily stand for Shoot Cranky People For Television. Along with ACS, JCMSI and PCSC, this is one of what I like to call ‘Acronym-Titled Forensic Drama.’ Not a scrap of substance in them, and all pretty much cookie cutter versions of each other. The formula is very simple. Put a bunch of dudes in sunglasses looking real smart at crime scenes, then have an appropriately gory crime each week, and use some ridiculously non-existent, yet plausible technology to sort it out for them.

Snore.

Sunset High – Watch as a bunch of pretty kids have issues! They have their own over-priced Hovercrafts, token splicer friend, and bottomless antidepressant subscriptions!

Kill me now.

That’s the problem with watching TV, even if it is in full three dimensional holograms. It’s just stuff to keep your average Sangelino housewife happy. It’s no wonder people broadcast feeds to pre-Quakes programming. These were shows worth watching. Sure, there’s your share of crap, but most of the good stuff has been preserved. It’s also interesting because it gives you a look back to society back then.

If I was the academic type I’d probably create a project for it, but right now, I’ve got a zoccair game!
