At the gymnasium

Alicia and I turned up for self defense classes, but this was no way as fun as I had imagined it would be. It was all very serious business.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I can be a bit, umm… goofy, but that’s cute, right?
We arrived there for registration and this instructor just looked at us and yelled “NAMES!”. Alicia was quite startled. I just cracked up laughing, then I saluted and said “Havel, sir!” He did not find this amusing, and put me into some kind of arm-lock.
“Do you seriously want to learn how to defend yourself, or is this some joke to you?”

The pain was incredible, then he flexed my arm and got worse. I didn’t know what to do.
“Y-y-yes!” I replied, almost ready to cry.

He let go, and I collapsed, gasping.

I looked back at him and his expression softened.
“You’re not going to have time for supposedly witty banter in a self defense situation. You’d do well to treat me, and this class with respect. My name is Jack Naseden, now, again, your names.”
“Alicia,” said Alicia, quietly.
“Havel,” I said, seriously this time. I didn’t like this guy.

After that we did some warm-up excercises and then we were told about the, form of the Martial arts we’d be learning, and finally, some basic locks and throws. My enjoyment of the whole thing was tainted by how I was treated.

“Let’s not go again,” I said to Alicia as we were leaving.
“What are you talking about?” she replied, “That was fun once I got into it. I’m totally going again!”

So much for my great ideas.
