The Assault on the MausoleumPosted on August 23, 2008 @ 12:53AM The Mausoleum of the lower-west side of the Tosadae city surrounds was an ancient place. From what I got told, it’s a preserved graveyard from Japan, which got absorbed by the Mu continent when it got thrust up by the Great Quakes. There’s a massive tomb inside, probably belonged to some Emperor from way back when. This is what ran through my brain, while the Tosadae security taskforce Alejandro Graves assembled moved into position outside a giant stone door. We had a good tip that the Hall of Shadows was based inside, holding my good friend Miro hostage. Derf tipped me off, and insisted he be there when we rescue her. I said it was cool, so long as he stay out of the way. I also made it explicitly clear that she may not still be alive, and that he should be prepared for that. I just hoped I was prepared for that possibility myself. I walked over to where Jason and Graves were observing the team by the door. “Listen boys,” said Graves. “While you’re admirable recruits, you’re still way too green to participate in an assault like this. We’ve got no idea how many members are in this organization. You’ll go in after the first strike team. Keep your weapons high, and remember your training.”
The team by the door could see no obvious way in, so the decision was made to use explosives. They set it up, and got well back and blasted it open. The first team ran in. We followed closely behind and found ourselves in a massive chamber. The walls seemed to be malfunctioning in someway, like a holographic image had been lain over the top of them somehow. The image shorted out before we got a good look at what it was. In the center of the room, was an altar, with four people in cloaks and hoods holding bowls with flames coming out of them, standing around it. At the head of the altar was a man in a purple robe, who was chanting something in a low voice. He registered our presence and looked panicked and started chanting faster. He motioned to the other figures to pour their bowls on the altar. Miro was tied to the altar! I panicked and fired my weapon at the closest figure holding the bowl, it went flying and caught the man in the purple robe alight. The strike team put down the remaining four men and I ran over to Miro. “Grenci?” she said, and passed out. I lifted her up and took her outside. All of a sudden, from behind me I heard a blood curdling roar, followed by “YOU CANNOT HAVE THE PRIESTESS!” I looked back to see the leader, engulfed in flames, running towards me. Jason put him down with three shots from his weapon. It was over. I took Miro outside, where Derf was waiting. She came to a bit, and he ran over and hugged her. The fallout from this one is going to give the Tosadae detective branch one hell of a headache. |
