On the trail of Miro.

Posted on August 03, 2008 @ 06:17AM

I got a call on my wristponder from Derf. He told me he was out in the area outside of campus trying to find any signs of Miro. This was good, because I didn’t want him around Jason an’ me when we got down to business. I was quite happy to get my hands dirty on this one. The drug case was about preventing people from getting hurt, this was about saving my friend. Derf’s okay in my book, but he’s a bit naive to come along with us.

“Where are going first?” Jason asked me.
“Archaic Library.” I replied. “She’d been going there for ages. People don’t tend to know about it if they don’t got a reason.
“Right,” said Jason. “That’ll give us a narrower focus for checking out witnesses.” Jason brought up the Detective Branch mainframe on his wristponder and cycled through the traffic in and out of the Archaic Library.

When we arrived, he had a list of people there on the days Miro had been. I went up to the head librarian. I splicer woman with bulging lizard eyes and a scaly texture to her skin.
“Miro Yukimura.” I said to her bluntly, Jason and I held up our Tosadae Detective Training Branch IDs. “Oh yes,” She said, kinda obliviously. “We haven’t seen her in here the last couple of days. Is everything alright?”
“No, everything is most definitely not alright!” I barked at her. She was taken aback.
“Has anyone else asked for her?” Jason asked her, much more reasonably, he cast me a sideways glance, indicating for me to keep my cool.
“Oh, umm…” she stuttered, I guess scaring her wasn’t the appropriate form of action. “Yes, there was a man. He had darker features. He looked normal, but may have been a splicer because he had these pale, mauve or purple eyes. He was very gruff.” Jason pulled up an Identikit generation program on his wristponder and got her to describe the man.
“We’re going to need the security footage too,” I said.

As we were leaving, reviewing what we knew, I saw something moving in the corner of my eye. Jason must have seen it too, because he was running after it in a flash. The guy’s quick. We’d been in the Archaic Library a while and it had gotten dark. We were chasing a guy in a hood, and he was quick, but nothing amazing.

Jason tackled him and had him pinned, I was there a second later.
“Why were you following us?” Jason yelled at him. I ripped off his hood but, was disapointed to see that he didn’t match the librarian’s description.
“I was sent to watch you by my master, the great Regent-Priest. You will not retrieve your friend. She is now returned to us!” This made little or no sense to me.
“Let’s take this nutcase into holding,” I said to Jason. Jason sharply twisted the man’s arm up behind his back and we marched him off.
