The Debrief

Posted on July 27, 2008 @ 03:15AM

Miro is still missing, an’ I’m worried. I haven’t been this stirred-up since Tonio got in all that trouble back in Covax.

Things can’t just up and stop though, and while I’m anxious to find Miro, I had to attend a debrief with Mr. Alejandro Graves AKA my father. Jason was there as well.

“I’m impressed boys,” said Graves. “That work was first-rate. You used the resources well, and a few less obvious ones. I’m writing commendations for both of you. I expect you both to go on to become valuable members of the Politia.”
“Thank you very much, Mr Graves.” Jason said, very humble-like.
“Yeah, thanks.” I said, trying to express pride in what Jason and I accomplished, but having a hard time due to Miro.
“Excellent,” said Graves. “Be sure to report to advanced firearms training at 0800 hours tomorrow. Dismissed.”

We got up to leave, and Mr. Graves, stood up and said “If you could just hang back a moment please Grenci.” Jason nodded at me and walked out.
“What’s on your mind son?” I couldn’t quite figure out if he meant that as “my son” or as “son what you call someone younger than you in general.”
“Well, umm, sir,” I started, not sure whether to call him “Dad” or not. “My roommate…”
“Miro Yukimura,” he interrupted
“Yes…” I continued.
“She’s missing.” he said.
“Yeah,” I replied. “I think she’s been abducted. She was assaulted after leaving the Archaic Library, and she’s been missing since she went to report it.”
“I see.” He said. “I’ll get the Detective Branch to ramp up their investigation.”
“She was investigating the Hall of Shadows, if that means anything.” I told him.
“I see,” He said. “I’ve heard of them, but they’re generally considered a myth. I’ll look into it. I suggest you do the same.”
“Okay,” I said.
“Whoever abducted her must have been watching her for some time,” Said Graves. “I suggest you start at the Archaic Library.”
“Thank you Mr. Graves” I said.
“I know it must be hard to have the father you never knew in this kind of situation Grenci,” he said. “I don’t expect us to automatically fall into a father-son relationship, but you can come to me with anything, alright?”
“Yes Mr. Graves.” I replied.
“Alejandro,” he said. “When its just you and me, you can call me Alejandro.”
“Sure thing, ‘Al,’” I replied, and flashed a cheeky grin, and walked out.

Jason was waiting for me outside.
“You want my help on this.” he said, more as a statement than a question.
I hadn’t had many good friends in my life, but I looked at the concern on Jason’s face, and was grateful.
“Yeah,” I said, “I really do.”
He smiled. “Let’s get going,” he said.
