An interrogation

Posted on July 13, 2008 @ 04:59AM

On a tip I got from Nkiru and her teammate, Jason and I turned up at the Zero-G sports arena and apprehended some student called Josh Ackimene. He looked real outta shape, like he was on some kinda bad come-down. He had these big patches that looked like leopard spots developing on him, like splicer DNA was trying to take over. He had been using splintron.

Since Jason and I had collared him, we got to interrogate him.
“Listen Josh,” said Jason. “It is now painfully obvious to us that you’ve been using that stuff. You want to tell us where you got it?”
Mr. Ackimene didn’t seem to want to answer this question. “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t…” he just went on.
“We don’t have time for this,” I yelled, and I got up and smacked him over the head. “The longer we’re wasting time here, the more people are getting wasted on this stuff, and they’re going to end up like pathetic, sniveling idiots like you.”
Jason looked at me. Stunned. I think the thought I might have crossed the line.
But I wasn’t done there.

I pulled out a copy of a photograph I had been given of Julian Deacon’s corpse just prior to the autopsy. His skin had turned a purple color, and his legs took on more, cheetah like appearance. His bones had completely transformed because of the bad cocktail of splicer DNA in the drugs.
“That’s gonna happen to you if you don’t get help. We ain’t gonna help you if you don’t give us a name.”
“That’s, that’s Julian!” he said.
Great! I thought. He knew him. This is going to hit perfectly.
“That’s right. You knew him? Did he supply you?.”
“Yes. Yes!” he said, sobbing.
“Who supplies you now?” Jason asked, reminding me that he was still in the interview.
“I haven’t met them yet. I’ve been told to meet them outside the campus tomorrow afternoon.” Josh replied. From here, he’d tell us anything we wanted to know. He was that scared.
“Excellent.” I said. “You’re going to keep that appointment… and we’re going with you.”

Jason pulled me aside after the interview.
“Look… Grenci. That went well, but it was a little rough,” said Jason. “For starters, Deacon was murdered, he didn’t die from the drug.”
“I know man, but it got results, didn’t it?”
“UG man,” he said. “I’m glad you’re on our side.”
